Social care exclusion from new Health and Care Visa

Earlier last week the Government announced that social care workers would be excluded from the new Health and Care Visa and the entire “skilled worker” route with the implementation of points-based immigration system.


Following this announcement, Cllr Runciman, the Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Health and Adult Social Care, has written to the Home Secretary to condemn this decision and urge the Government to introduce a sector-specific visa route enabling international recruitment into social care to address the worrying staffing shortages facing the sector.

Council leader lobbies for civil service relocation to York

Cllr Keith Aspden, Liberal Democrat Leader of City of York Council, has today written to the Prime Minister and Cabinet Office to reiterate his support for the proposals which would see York established as Britain’s ‘second city’, with the possible relocation of the House of Lords or civil service departments. Cllr Aspden first wrote to the Prime Minister in January expressing the Council’s support in progressing any proposals.
