Exactly one year before the next local elections, York Liberal Democrats have today launched their ‘York 2027’ survey which asks residents to help shape the party’s plans for the city.

Liberal Democrat councillors and campaigners gathered outside the council’s headquarters to launch the citywide survey, which will ask residents about the issues that matter most to them and help shape the party’s priorities for the election.

The party says the campaign will focus on putting residents’ priorities first, winning back City of York Council from Labour and stopping Reform UK gaining a foothold in York politics.

Cllr Nigel Ayre, York Liberal Democrat Group Leader said:

“Labour have broken virtually every major promise they made before the last election and residents understandably feel let down.

“We’ve seen dithering and delays on major projects leading to overspends and a council that too often looks paralysed instead of focused on delivering for residents.

“Despite Labour controlling the council, having two MPs, a regional Mayor and being in Government nationally, York has been consistently overlooked. Residents were promised influence and investment, but too often York has been left behind.

“We set out a positive plan in our 2026/27 alternative council budget, with more investment in frontline services and moving decision-making back to local communities – reversing Labour’s ‘command and control’ approach which shuts out residents’ voices.

“The Liberal Democrats won’t be afraid to fight for the fair deal York deserves.

Cllr Paula Widdowson. York Liberal Democrat Deputy Group Leader said:

“With exactly one year to go until the election, this survey is about listening to residents and building a clear plan for York’s future.

“We want to hear directly from people about the issues affecting their communities, what they want to see improved and the priorities they think the next council should focus on.

“York deserves a council that listens, delivers and puts residents first.”

The York 2027 survey will be delivered across the city over the coming months, both online and on the doorstep, as Liberal Democrat campaigners step up preparations for the May 2027 local elections and beyond.
