Haxby and Wigginton's Liberal Democrat Councillors Andrew Hollyer, Richard Watson and Ian Cuthbertson have welcomed the arrival of the temporary Post Office at Oaken Grove Community Centre, which will officially open to residents at 9am this Friday 3 October.

The self-contained Post Office has now been delivered to Oaken Grove, ready to begin serving local people with a wide range of postal and banking services. This comes after Haxby and Wigginton’s ward councillors and Haxby Town Council agreed to providing funding to Oaken Grove to allow it to host the temporary solution. The temporary post office will be in place for up to six months, whilst efforts to find a permanent home for a Post Office in the centre of Haxby continue.

Cllr Andrew Hollyer, Haxby & Wigginton said:

“Seeing the temporary Post Office arrive at Oaken Grove is a fantastic moment. From Friday, residents will once again have access to a wide range of services they’ve been missing since the closure of the old branch earlier this year.”

Cllr Richard Watson, Haxby & Wigginton added:

“This is a big win for the community. The mobile branch will make life easier for residents and also support local businesses by bringing back footfall to Haxby.”

Cllr Ian Cuthbertson, Haxby & Wigginton added:

“I’m delighted that the temporary Post Office is now in place and ready to serve our community. This is proof of what can be achieved when local councils and campaigners work together.”

The temporary Post Office will begin operations at 9am this Friday October 3rd, at Oaken Grove Community Centre.
