Lib Dems Demand Action as Barratt Homes Repeatedly Break Planning Rules in Huntington
Huntington and New Earswick Liberal Democrat Councillors are calling on City of York Council to step in and ensure Barratt Homes finally adheres to the planning conditions designed to protect local residents.
Despite clear conditions set out as part of the planning approval, Barratt Homes has repeatedly breached the rules, including starting construction earlier than permitted and allowing dangerous vehicle parking on New Lane, Huntington.
Construction activity is not permitted before 9am on Saturdays, yet residents reported work beginning as early as 7.30am this weekend. On weekdays, work has often started before the agreed 8am.
Cllr Keith Orrell said:
“The Planning Inspector was absolutely clear that no vehicles should park on New Lane and for good reason. On Saturday I personally saw heavy goods vehicles parked there, creating dangerous conditions for drivers, pedestrians and local people. This isn’t a one-off; it keeps happening.”
Local Lib Dem councillors have already met with the site manager several times as a part of their ongoing work to keep residents informed about the local development and push for solutions. While these meetings have had some impact, councillors say Barratt Homes appears to comply only when convenient.
Cllr Keith Orrell added:
“Residents deserve better than a developer who picks and chooses which rules to follow. We’ve now called on Council Officers to ensure Barratt Homes is held to the planning conditions in full and to take enforcement action where necessary.”
