Lib Dem Campaigners call on council to take immediate action to fix burst water main
Hull Road Ward Lib Dems are calling on City of York Council to take immediate action to fix the burst water main on Tuke Avenue.
The main which runs through the gardens on the south side of Tuke Avenue has been leaking for more than 3 weeks and despite numerous calls from local residents no action has been taken. As soon as the Lib Dem team were made aware of the leak we contacted Yorkshire Water who confirmed that they had been aware of the problem since June when they notified the property owner that the leak was from a private 2” main owned by City of York Council. We contacted the Housing and Environment department at the council and despite numerous calls from local residents nothing has happened.
Local campaigner Caleb Pell said “as soon as we were made aware of the problem we contacted Yorkshire Water and City of York Council. We are still waiting for a response from the council and are shocked that neither Yorkshire Water nor the council have taken action to stop the leak. At a time when a hosepipe ban has been implemented and local people are being asked to save water it is appalling that what must be thousands of gallons of fresh water are literally going straight down the drain every day.”
Hull Road Ward campaigner Danielle Mason said “Allowing so much water to be wasted in the current climate is not on. Yorkshire Water have a responsibility to stop water being wasted. I am not bothered who does the work but either the Council or Yorkshire Water need to stop the leak now.”
