Lib Dem Campaigners call on council to fix safety barrier that was destroyed last Christmas

Hull Road Ward Lib Dems are renewing pressure on City of York Council to fix the safety barrier by the B&Q roundabout on Hull Road. The barrier which provides protection for pedestrians using the nearby footpath was destroyed by a car which crashed into it late last year.
Local campaigner and Parish Councillor, where the roundabout is located, Caleb Pell said “through our Lib Dem Councillor colleagues we have raised the need to fix the safety barrier twice already with the council but they haven’t done anything. The local Lib Dem team have cleared away as much of the debris from the car crash as we can but there are still large chunks of bodywork on site. It is as if the council haven’t even been to inspect the damage.”
Campaigner Danielle Mason went on to say “The barrier has been completely destroyed by the accident and now provides no protection for pedestrians using the nearby footpath. The crash at Christmas wasn’t the first time the barrier has been damaged and it is only a matter of luck that there hasn’t been another accident whilst the footpath is in use. We are once again calling on the council to take action and replace the barrier as soon as possible. It is a matter of public safety.”
