Deputy Mayor Must Step In to Save York City Promotion Parade
York Liberal Democrats are calling on York & North Yorkshire’s Labour Deputy Mayor for Policing, Jo Coles, to urgently step in and resolve the issues preventing a promotion parade for York City FC.
Following the club’s historic return to the Football League, plans for a city centre parade have been thrown into doubt after North Yorkshire Police said they could not support the event in its current form.
Liberal Democrats say this is deeply disappointing for players, fans, residents and the city as a whole and that urgent action is now needed to get plans back on track.
Cllr Nigel Ayre said:
“York City’s promotion is a huge moment for our city. Fans have backed the club through thick and thin, and they deserve the chance to celebrate properly.
“At the moment, it feels like this is at risk of falling through due to a lack of coordination and urgency. That simply isn’t good enough.
“Jo Coles has responsibility for policing oversight across York and North Yorkshire. We are calling on her to step in immediately, bring all parties together, and make sure the issues are resolved so a parade can go ahead safely.
“It’s about time someone showed some leadership and made this happen for fans.”
