Following a meeting in December between the local Lib Dems and Yorkshire Water, an explanation has been given for the foul smells caused by the Rawcliffe Water Treatment Works.
Yorkshire Water has now asked residents to report smells whenever they occur directly to the utility company. This way they can log the issues, building a clearer picture of when the smells occur and they can therefore fix problems at the site more quickly.
Yorkshire Water commented: “We have improved operational procedures in place to manage the site in such a way as to reduce odours (as far as it is possible to prevent odours from a sewage treatment works) and we will continue to ensure any issues on site are responded to as soon as possible. “We are also looking at some potential investment on site to address an issue with one of the sludge storage tanks, which has been a cause of odours in the past.”
The Liberal Democrats will continue to work with Yorkshire Water to ensure that improvements continue. If you do detect a smell from the site please call Yorkshire Water on 03451 242424 or request a call back online at www.yorkshirewater.com/callback.
