Christian represented Wheldrake Ward as a City Councillor between 2003 and 2011. He worked across the ward to represent residents, to ensure that the A19 Crockey Hill junction got traffic signals, to transform the A19 junction at Deighton, to support flooding prevention measures in Elvington and road improvements in Naburn, and to bring evening bus services to Wheldrake.
Whilst on the council’s ruling executive for two years, he improved access to sports, protected community libraries and cultural activities, defended civil liberties and defended the rights of minority groups.
Christian is passionate about protecting the environment and was instrumental in getting the Council its first environmentally sustainable building, the ecoDepot, which saves residents tens of thousands of pounds a year in reduced energy and water bills.
By profession, Christian has been a film and television composer for twenty years, a photographer, and a director of environmental films in cities across the EU. He is currently a design manager with a Fair Trade business based in York.
