Meet your Lib Dem candidates for Westfield Ward this May.

 

Simon Daubeney

Simon has had a working life that covered food manufacturing, banking and local government – with over 25 years working as an economic development officer with City of York Council.

He has a wide range of experience gained in his professional life, from advising business start-ups, through skills development for individuals and businesses to working with peripheral areas in the city, including Front Street, to develop collaboration and build a sense of community.

Simon also has over 15 years voluntary work with young people for The Prince’s Trust as a business mentor, as well as 10 years voluntary work helping young people with the city’s Youth Offending Team.

Sue Hunter

Sue was born in York and has lived in Acomb for most of her life, currently on Green Lane with her partner Nigel. Sue runs the local florist Floral Elegance and has done for the last 18 years.

Sue jointly formed Acomb Alive Traders Association with the aim to assist local business to promote and encourage the local community and surrounding areas to shop locally.

Her aim is to help create a better shopping experience, tidy up the area and regain the community life that Acomb Village had and will have again. Being a local lass, Sue believes she has a greater understanding as to what Acomb residents would like to see for their village. A key focus for Sue will be representing the views of council tenants across York.

Andrew Waller

Andrew was first elected as a councillor for Westfield in 1994, and was leader of the Council 2008-2011.

He was re-elected to the Council in October 2014 when he won a by election with a majority of over 1200 votes. Since rejoining the Council he has become the chair of the Economic & City Development Scrutiny Committee

He lives on Askham Lane, and is Treasurer of Chapelfields Community Association (which runs Sanderson House Community Centre), School Governor at Westfield Primary and York High Schools. He jointly set up the Acomb Traders Association, Acomb Alive! promoting business in the Front Street shopping area. He has campaigned on local services, including protecting community centres.

Andrew has the position of Executive Member for Environment.

As Executive Member for the Environment, Andrew took charge of plans to reverse the decline in recycling seem under the last Labour administration.

His portfolio covers: Environmental Health and Food Hygiene, Health and Safety (internal and external), Flood Protection, Smarter York / York Pride, Waste Management, Street Environment, Environment Strategy, Air Quality, Street based delivery services and Community Centres.
