Ward funding provides summer fun for youngsters

Liberal Democrat Councillors in Westfield and Dringhouses & Woodthorpe wards have clubbed together to fund summer activities for local young people.

Over the next few weeks, York City Knights Foundation will be running a series of skate park sessions and outdoor obstacle courses in Foxwood, Woodthorpe and Dringhouses, which are open to all children over 7 years of age.

The fun got underway this week with skate park sessions at Moor Lane Youth Centre and at Foxwood Community Centre. Liberal Democrat Councillors Sheena Jackson (Westfield) and Stephen Fenton (Dringhouses & Woodthorpe) have welcomed the positive impact that their ward funding has had.

Cllr Sheena Jackson, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Westfield, commented:

"It just goes to show that a small amount of money can go a long way in providing free activities for local young people.”

“York City Knights have done a terrific job in putting together a programme of activities which local families can get on board with.”

“Lib Dem councillors will continue to champion and utilise ward budgets to this effect and also use the funding to respond to needs and priorities of our local communities."
