As mentioned in the last issue of FOCUS your Lib Dem councillors have secured investment to improve the pavements in parts of Haxby and Wigginton. The first stage of this was the north side of The Village, Haxby and the Usher Park Road and Swarthdale estate.
Whilst we were pleased to see the work start at the end of November 2021, we were extremely disappointed with the pedestrian management measures used and the standard of the finish, in places, used by the Council’s contractor.
We immediately met with council officers and the contractor on site to highlight these issues and ask for them to return to redo damaged areas - which they did, more successfully, the following week.
There is clearly some work remaining in both of these areas, but overall we’re pleased that they represent an improvement on what was there before - and we will be working to ensure that the right lessons have been learnt by the Council prior to any further repairs and any additional pavements being started in February.
