Liberal Democrat Councillor Sue Hunter is calling on residents to support St Leonard's Hospice during the COVID-19 crisis. St Leonard’s have been forced to shut their 14 shops and postpone all fundraising events as the crisis takes its toll on their finances.
Emma Johnson, Chief Executive of St Leonard’s Hospice said: “It is essential that we keep going now more than ever, as the work we do allows us to support NHS Hospitals by continuing to care for patients in their own homes or in our In-Patient Unit. We are working collaboratively with partners across the community and acute Trust to support the wider health and social care system. We are pleased that the government have announced a national support package for hospices but it vital that our local community continue to support us during this time."
Cllr Sue Hunter, Westfield ward, commented:
“The work St Leonard’s does is absolutely essential for our community. As a volunteer I’ve seen first-hand how much strain the COVID-19 crisis is putting them under. I would urge anyone who is able, to make a donation and support our local Hospice."
