James spent his formative years in South Africa and Somerset. Post ‘O’ levels James started working as a trainee quantity surveyor for a construction company based in Bristol, where he attended Bristol Polytechnic where he graduated from in 1992.
Following 4 years in industry, he joined the RAF as an Officer Cadet in 1996 graduating as an RAF Regiment officer in 1997. 21 years of military service has seen him deploy to Iraq (three times) and Afghanistan as well as a number of other countries on exercises and training tasks.
Outside of work James is a warranted Scout leader, rugby coach and member of the school PTA.
James is standing as he wants to make a difference to the community and ward he lives in. His main concerns are the state of roads, urban sprawl caused by housing development which don’t have suitable infrastructure and public transport.
Anne has lived in Poppleton for over 23 years and is a Parish Councillor for the Upper Poppleton Parish Council.
Anne regularly gets involved with local activities. She is the secretary to the Poppleton Players and has been involved in several productions, both on and backstage. Recently, she has taken on the role of treasurer of the Poppleton Youth Group and auditor of the Tithe Barn.
Since retiring from her career as a Chartered Accountant, she has been involved in fund-raising for several local charities, such as the York RSPCA Animal Home, the York Branch of the RSPB and has volunteered at the Wilberforce Trust for 18 years.
Anne enjoys travelling to pursue her passions for animals and history, as well encouraging the development of local wildlife by creating a safe environment for birds and hedgehogs in her back garden.
Anne cares strongly for the area she lives in and will work hard for residents in Rural West.
