Progress on £3⁄4m road schemes

In the last edition of the Focus we reported that £750,000 had been allocated by the council for road resurfacing in our area.

Since then, progress has been made with work undertaken on Gale Lane, Thanet Road, Acomb Green and at the junction of Askham Lane with the ring road roundabout. We are awaiting confirmation of when the resurfacing on Foxwood Lane (Chesneys Field end) will take place.

Meanwhile, the local Lib Dem team continues to report potholes and poor road surfaces in need of repair on streets such as Lowfields Drive (which now looks even worse in comparison with the newly-resurfaced Gale Lane) Acomb Wood Drive, Ridgeway and Askham Lane.

The condition of the road surface close to the kerb presents a particular danger for cyclists and crumbling tarmac speed humps continue to pose a hazard for all road users. We hope to see some progress soon on tackling these hazards.

Cllr Sue Hunter said “The condition of local roads, footpaths and cycle paths continues to be a key concern for local residents, and as councillors it is an issue that we are continually pushing for action on.”
