The Heworth Without Parish Council, with the help of local Councillor Nigel Ayre, has installed climbing rocks at the Stray Road Play Area in Heworth Without.
The new climbing rocks have been installed using Council’s ward funding scheme together with the support from the local parish's funding, with each covering half of the expenses. Whilst there is various play equipment across York’s play areas, climbing rocks are a rare and exciting addition to the local community facilities.
Councillor Nigel Ayre, Liberal Democrat councillor for Heworth Without, commented:
“Ensuring we have excellent play areas across the city is crucial in supporting our communities and most importantly, providing safe places for young people to enjoy healthy outdoor activities.
"Ward budget is there to support measures that tackle issues of concern to residents or support the local community. Sometimes they are big ticket items such as tree planting, but the smaller schemes such as this one are just as important.
“Having tested the new equipment myself, I am sure the local young people will enjoy this excellent addition to their local park. The Parish Council have invested a great deal of time and resource to improvements to the park and I’m pleased to have been able to help with this project and continue to support their future plans.”
Ron Clayton, Chair of the Parish Council, added:
'Having recently installed new outdoor gym equipment in the area, I’m looking forward to getting myself fit and ready to tackle this fantastic new addition to the play area.”
