Main Street near Prospect Terrace, Fulford - Pedestrian Crossing

The Council is going to undertake work to refurbish the pedestrian crossing on Main Street near Prospect Terrace in Fulford as part of the Traffic Signal Asset Renewal Programme. This consists of a full renewal of the traffic signal equipment and will include changes to pedestrian crossing equipment to facilitate Puffin near side red / green man displays. We’ll also be making minor changes to the tactile paving at the crossing, resurfacing the footway in the direct area of the crossing and resurfacing the carriageway on the approaches to the crossing.

Works will start on Monday 28th February 2022 for the main civils / groundworks with all work expected to be fully completed by Friday 11th March 2022.

The civils / ground work will be carried out by the Council’s in-house contractor with the specialist traffic signals contractor Dynniq undertaking the traffic signals works. The hours of working will be typically 9:00am – 4:00pm, Monday to Friday.

To allow for the works to be undertaken safely, it will be necessary to temporarily place the junction of A19 Main Street and Prospect Terrace under temporary traffic light control during the works period. City of York will be managing the network to reduce delays but drivers are asked to plan their journey carefully and leave plenty of time. We are advising motorists that regularly travel through this location to plan an alternative where possible.

Temporary traffic regulation orders will be in place to suspend parking on the approach to the pedestrian crossing on A19 Main Street and also along a small section at the East end of Prospect Terrace during the works.

A temporary controlled crossing will be provided during construction to allow pedestrians to cross the road safely. Pedestrian routes and access to all businesses and properties will be retained throughout the duration of the works as will vehicular access.

For any enquires regarding these works please send correspondence to: [email protected] Following completion of the Traffic Signal works, City of York Council will be carrying out road maintenance works to resurface the carriageway commencing on: Monday 14th March 2022 for a period of 4 nights (weather permitting). The works will be carried out between 7.30pm – 5.00am.

The works will be done under lane closures and will be carried out in two phases as follows:

Phase 1 – Inbound Lane heading towards York will be closed. Prospect Terrace and Delwood will be closed during this phase whilst we work across and into the side road junctions.

Phase 2 – Outbound Lane heading out of York will be closed. Prospect Terrace and Delwood will operate under a marshalled system to allow people in and out when safe to do so but access/egress will be available.

This is to ensure that adequate health and safety is maintained for both local residents, the travelling public and the contractor. Site staff will be on hand to advise and assist residents about any access restrictions once the works are ongoing.

All on-street parking within the works area will be suspended during the hours of the works for the full duration, but specific access requirements can be arranged by speaking to the site Traffic Management Operatives who will coordinate with residents and business’ around the ongoing work operations.

As with any construction work, there is likely to be a certain amount of disruption and inconvenience to the public however, the contractor will at all times try to keep any disruption to a minimum.
