Consultation can now begin on the next phase of the Local Plan, after Executive Members of the Council approved the plan at tonight’s meeting.
Following the recent meeting of the Local Plan Working Group, an additional 800 houses are to be delivered at York Central; increasing the overall number of affordable houses within the Local Plan and ensuring high quality affordable houses are situated in prime locations of the City.
Furthermore, a further 40,000 square meters has been accepted by the Local Plan Working Group for employment sites to be developed within York Central. This will ensure the site remains wholly sustainable and delivers increased economic activity in the area.
As a result, the Local Plan will help meet the challenges in addressing York’s housing need, whilst ensuring significant protection for existing communities and the Green Belt.
The Liberal Democrats will continue to work hard in securing a balanced Local Plan, right for the residents of York.
Cllr Ann Reid said:
“I am pleased that after tonight, we are now one step closer to delivering a Local Plan for York; one that faces up to our housing pressures, but protects the natural beauty of our existing communities and the City as a whole.
With Executive approval, we can now begin to consult the City on the final stages of the Local Plan and ensure that any version of the Local Plan we submit to the inspector, is entirely representative of resident’s views.”
