We are delighted to report that the planning application to extend and upgrade Oaken Grove Community Centre to allow it to be the permanent home for Haxby and Wigginton’s library has been approved.
Construction is currently due to commence in June, with the library re-opening in September. During the construction phase, the Council have worked hard to find alternative venues for planned activities, hours at New Earswick Library will be extended and Explore have hired Wigginton Recreational Hall on a Friday afternoon 2-5pm (Explore website for details). Local Lib Dem Councillor Andrew Hollyer said: “we’re delighted to see plans to provide a new home for our library take this major step. “In 2018, York’s Lib Dems committed to protecting funding for libraries, including Haxby and Wigginton, despite opposition from the local Conservatives. We’re pleased to be able to deliver on this promise.”
