Liberal Democrat councillors for Dringhouses & Woodthorpe and Westfield wards have recently banded together to use Ward Committee money to fund a range of activities for young people to enjoy during their school holidays.
Activities have already taken place over the Easter break, with the York City Knights Foundation running a number of popular skate park sessions at Foxwood Community Centre and Moor Lane Youth Centre. Further activities are planned for the May/June half-term week and also during the summer holidays.
Dringhouses & Woodthorpe and Westfield councillors are working together across the two wards, including holding joint Ward Committee meetings, to organize such activities. By combining funds from their respective Ward Committee budgets, the councillors are allocating around £12,000 on activities and support for young people locally.
Cllr Stephen Fenton, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Dringhouses and Woodthorpe, said:
“I am really pleased that the skate park sessions we have helped to fund have been so popular and widely enjoyed by young people across the west of York.”
“As local councillors, we want to utilise our Ward Committee budgets as best we can to fund activities for young people.”
Cllr Andrew Waller, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Westfield, said:
“The Liberal Democrats are absolutely committed to using Ward Committee funding to improve or enrich the lives of residents in our local communities.”
“These activities that we have co-funded are an excellent example of this and demonstrate what can be achieved when ward councillors work together to the benefit of their communities.”
