Meet your Lib Dem candidates for Heworth this May.

Steve Jones

Steve lives in Heworth having moved to York from Ripon. He taught for over 30 years but now enjoys working part time at the Nestle site.

He is particularly interested in housing, employment and environmental issues which are of vital importance to the local community. He has campaigned regularly on these issues and he is keen to see how the needs and aspirations of the local community can be met by the City Council.

He likes to cycle and is a seasoned walker. He takes a keen interest in football and cricket and likes to garden. Steve is also interested in the historic heritage of the City and he volunteers as a guide at one of the City’s attractions.

Jonathan Morley

Jonathan has lived in York for most of his life, including working for a local firm of solicitors before running his own legal business.
Jonathan has been very involved with voluntary organisations supporting young people and ex-offenders and is currently a member of the Trustees of the Peasholme Charity and is on the Executive Committee of Carecent.

With his wife Adelaide, Jonathan enjoys singing in the University of York Choir and working in their allotment. They are also involved in a regular archaeological dig.

Ben Rich

Ben first came to York as a student in the 1980s and was elected as President of the Students Union in 1987. After university, he moved to London for work but always longed to return, finally moving back with his young family in 2013.

Since then, Ben has been extremely active, founding York’s Liberal Jewish Community – the first in the City for over forty years – helping to develop the strategy for the Yourcafe food recycling project at the Tang Hall community Centre and serving as a parent Governor at his children school, Fishergate. He also runs the successful York under-16s chess team.

Professionally Ben has worked in public relations and strategic communications, serving as the Chief Executive of a medium-sized charity before his move back to York. He was also Interim Chief of Staff to Tim Farron MP, having run his campaign for Leader of the Liberal Democrats, and now advises a range of clients including the campaign for an elected Mayor for Yorkshire.
