The Department for Transport has kick-started the competition to find the new home of Great British Rail, with York set to be one of the favourites. Council Leader Keith Aspden is urging residents and businesses to support York’s bid to bring high skilled jobs and investment to the city.

I urge the Government to recognise the potential that locating the Great British Railways HQ to York would have to establish our city as the heart of the country’s rail industry and to truly level-up the wider region.

York's existing connections, historical links, sector jobs and highly skilled workforce, would make the city a perfect fit for Great British Railways.
