Keith pushes for Heslington pedestrian improvements

Keith has secured £5,000 Ward Committee funding to improve the footway surface, off University Road. This footway is used by village residents to access the local bus stop, but is currently very difficult with a wheelchair, mobility scooter or pram. The funding will be used by the Council, in partnership with the University, to improve and extend the footway, later this year.

New Bus Shelters!

Keith has welcomed the news that City of York Council, working with the Parish Council, have recently installed new shelters in Main Street and Crossfield Crescent in Fulford. The new shelters will also have new real time displays fitted shortly. The Parish Council are due to consult with local residents in Selby Road to see if the bus stop pole there should be replaced with a shelter later this year.

Green Bin and Waste Update

Thanks to the residents that completed the Council’s recent waste consultation.

In light of a Government announcement of plans to standardise waste collections across the country, the Council has decided not to proceed with any changes to the frequency of bin collections until it is clearer  what the Government plan. We have ensured, however, that some of the positive changes are put in place now and we’re pleased to let you know;

● That the garden waste season will be extended by one month, to run from the beginning of March to the end of November, starting in March 2022.

● That glass, cans and plastics can now be placed in the same box or boxes (2 boxes per household). Paper and card must however be kept separate. Recently you may also have been aware of issues in the  collection of green waste due to a national shortage of HGV drivers. The Road Haulage Association say there are about 100,000 lorry driver vacancies in the UK.

The Council has recently been able to hire additional drivers to help address this issue and are working hard to make collections on the normal scheduled day, or within 24 hours. However, some collections may be delayed or missed. Please refer to the Council’s updates for information about collection problems in specific areas. Some households are being asked to leave bins out, while others will need to take their bins in until the next scheduled collection.

You can check the status of collections here: www.york.gov.uk/WasteCollectionUpdates
