Front Street regeneration takes a step forward

Front Street Plan Report published.

The report set out the findings from an engagement exercise with residents and businesses and suggested some design principles for longer term improvements to the streetscape, identifying further feasibility, design and engagement work required. It covered both the pedestrianised section of Front Street and the wider shopping area. The report, which will help bids for funding, is available at:

Cllr Sue Hunter welcomed the report: “It is encouraging that so many residents and businesses have put forward their ideas and suggestions to drive footfall and improve the vibrancy of the area to support economic sustainability and growth. The number of businesses that have opened up in the area recently is a sign that local residents value the choice and diversity that Acomb has to offer.”

Cllr Simon Daubeney spoke at a council meeting on 16 June to press the case for Government funding to be secured to help level the paving slabs and make the area even more attractive for shoppers. The team has also been doing regular tidy-up sessions.
