A big thank you to everyone who has responded to the village survey so far. Cllr Christian Vassie and the Lib Dem team are still surveying the village to find out about the views of residents regarding the bus service in Wheldrake.
As a result the city council now knows the strength of support that there is for the weekend evening bus service.
72.5% want to keep it,
19% have no opinion, and
8.5% want the service scrapped.
A massive vote in favour!
Residents gave all sorts of reasons why this bus service matters. Here are just a few:
“No one likes to drink and drive. This service enables people to have a good evening in York without worrying.”
“There needs to be more evening buses in the week and on Sunday for those of us with families who want to visit York not on busy weekend evenings.”
“One of the best things about living in Wheldrake, please don’t lose it!”
“Current bus service is minimal and evening bus essential for the community.”
“I use these several times a year when meeting friends in York. Very important to retain.”
“The Friday evening bus service is used weekly by us.”
“Please keep buses in rural areas.”
“Brilliant idea for the younger residents.”
The usage figures are recovering well after two years of COVID. Our weekend evening buses are subsidised by the money we all pay to the parish council precept. The city council needs to hear from the parish council that they are happy to continue supporting this important service by the middle of August. Let's hope everyone is listening to the residents.
