Stephen Fenton

Current Councillor for Dringhouses and Woodthorpe

Stephen is currently chair of the Lib Dem council group at City of York Council. Stephen has lived in York, on Askham Lane, since 2003 when he moved to the city to take up a new job. He currently works for the NHS in a management role.

Stephen has been involved in a number of campaigns locally, including the ongoing fight to protect Green Belt land off Moor Lane from inappropriate development. He is committed to giving residents in the west of York a greater say in the decisions that affect residents' everyday lives, and would like to see the council spend its limited resources on the things that matter most to people.

In his spare time, Stephen enjoys playing and watching sports.

Stephen currently holds the position of Spokesperson for Transport & Planning

His spokesperson role covers: Civil Engineering and Highways, Parking Services and Parking Strategy, Transport Strategy, Highways Strategy, Taxi Licensing (in conjunction with Chair of Licensing), Digital Infrastructure, Regional and National Transport Infrastructure, Fleet Management, Planning Conservation and Urban Design, and Planning and Development Management.

Ashley was born in York and grew up in South Bank, attending Knavesmire Primary, Millthorpe School and then York College. He currently works as a specialist Paramedic managing the health services delivered to children aged 3 to 18. Before this he had run his own business, managed a small charity and spent time as a civilian member of staff for North Yorkshire Police. Ashley has a real passion for helping people and over the last 4 years has focused on ensuring local people are provided with a high standards of public services.

He is involved in many local organisations including being a Trustee of MySight York and the Museums Trust. Ashley works hard with local Lib Dem Ward Councillors and campaigners Ann Reid, Stephen Fenton and Paula Widdowson to ensure Dringhouses and Woodthorpe remains a lovely place to live and work.

Ashley is the Lib Dem spokesperson for Education, Children and Young People. Ashley is committed to ensuring the voice of parents is heard over controversial academy plans.

His spokesperson role covers School Improvement and Staff Development, Children and Families, Partnerships and Early Intervention, Lifelong Learning, Youth Services, School Place Planning, Play Policy, Children's Safeguarding, Special Educational Needs and Children's Centres and Early Years.

Paula Widdowson

Paula has lived and worked in York for over 20 years with her husband and two daughters. She studied Biochemistry at University of Leeds and is qualified to teach chemistry, biology and physics to A-Level. She has over 25 years of business experience working for Mars, ASDA, Northern Food and now runs her own business.

Paula has been a Governor for All Saints Senior School for the past 10 years, and has a keen interest in the education services across the City

Paula and her family are heavily involved in sporting activities across the City, participating in swimming, netball, squash and rowing.

Paula is eager to give something back to the city and becoming a Lib Dem councillor would allow her to do this. She is keen to ease congestion in the City, particularly around the Tadcaster Road area.
