Cllr Sue Hunter, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Westfield, has called on the Council to make urgent improvements to the pedestrian crossing on Acomb Front Street, outside Vyner House.
The well-used crossing has needed six call-outs over recent months, in order to repair equipment that it up to 25 years old. This has caused frustration to many local residents, particularly elderly people, who use the crossing on a regular basis to reach the Post Office and Chemists.
A number of other crossings in the city have been replaced over recent years and in response, Cllr Sue Hunter has written to the Council to request the crossing be modernised.
Councillor Sue Hunter, Liberal Democrat Ward Councillor for Westfield, commented:
“A number of residents have spoken to me to voice their concerns at how many times this crossing has been out of action, and of course, they have expressed their frustration at seeing the crossing regularly stop working.”
“The Westfield Councillors would like the Council to fully, and swiftly, address these concerns by fitting new and modern equipment to the crossing, so that it is more reliable for local residents.”
