This January the Public Enquiry for the Barratt application to build 300 houses off New Lane took place. Your Lib Dem Councillors attended the Enquiry and Cllr Keith Orrell spoke for the great majority of people in our community in objection to the proposal.
The Planning Inspector will make a recommendation to the Secretary of State who makes the final decision. When the application was heard at the Council’s Planning Committee, Lib Dem Councillors proposed that the application be rejected but Labour Councillors did not support this and their comments were used at the Appeal Hearing to support the Barratt case.
The last edition of FOCUS detailed the proposal by a Conservative Councillor that future housebuilding should be INSIDE the ring road. This would inevitably mean many more houses being built in our area on land that is currently proposed as green belt.
