Meet your Lib Dem candidates for Acomb this May.
Quentin was born in Buckinghamshire and lived in Canada from age 5 to 11. He graduated as an electrical engineer and worked for British Rail, coming to York in 1971, living first in Upper Poppleton and now in Nether Poppleton. Before his wife died in 1989, he cared for her for 10 years on kidney dialysis, including trips abroad with support from the splendid St James Renal Unit.
Quentin was elected to City of York Council in 1995 and served Rural West York for 12 years until 2007. For the last 4 years he was the Executive Member for Resources, responsible for management of the city’s finances, collection of Council Tax and the Council’s extensive property portfolio.
Since leaving the Council, Quentin has been the Systems Engineering Principal of High Speed UK.
Matt was born and brought up in London, working there on campaigns including fighting the closure of local services, particularly for a local centre for people with physical disabilities which a close family member relied on, later volunteering at a community provided service to provide some ongoing support.
He also campaigned with London Citizens for a Living Wage and the introduction of CitySafe Havens, which provide a growing network of safe spaces for those being threatened or in immediate danger.
He is now studying at the University of York, and is campaigning, with the Liberal Democrats, on important local issues such as housing provision. In his spare time Matt is passionate about both playing and listening to music and enjoys watching sports.
