Local campaign for Fulford’s joined up flood plan continues

As work continues on the Germany Beck junction, which is now coming into operation with flood defence walls for the A19, Councillor Keith Aspden has reiterated his calls for a joined up flood plan for the wider area.

Following on from the local and successful campaign led by Cllr Apsden with local residents and representatives from the Parish Council, £500,000 for additional flood defences in the area have been secured from the Council.
Looking forward, one key area of focus for the additional funding is how to build further flood resilience into the Fordlands Road Bridge, in order to protect the surrounding community.
Councillor Keith Aspden, ward Councillor for Fulford & Heslington, commented:
“As the work on the A19 continues, which I hope will provide welcome resilience for the main road, it is vital that local residents are provided the opportunity to be consulted openly and honestly to ensure any resulting plans for the wider area meet the community’s needs.”
“This must include the Fordlands Road and Fordlands Crescent area. I will continue in my role to ensure that the local community receives a thorough update on all proposals, and is provided plenty of opportunity to have their say on a joined-up flood plan for Fulford.”
