This year's popular Fulford Show has been launched and will be held once again on August Bank Holiday Monday, 26th August, to raise money for local and national charities. The show will take place between 1pm and 5pm on the School Lane playing field and in the Social Hall, Fulford.
Fulford Show is a community and family day for people across York to enjoy. This popular and fun bank holiday event is free entry (50p to visit the exhibition at the social hall) and includes a variety of charity stalls, a tombola, face painting, a beer tent, refreshments, miniature railway, family sports, musical entertainments, displays – with audience participation - of Japanese Drumming by Tengu School of Taiku, Tug of War challenge, food and much more. Stall spaces are available for hire!
Unlike previous events, this year’s Fulford Show will be truly unique, as event-goers will be treated to a fly-past from a Supermarine Spitfire!
There is also a craft and produce exhibition and competition at the social hall, in which adults and children can participate. This includes bakery, photography and painting, beer and winemaking, flowers, vegetables and arts & crafts. Exhibits should be brought to the Social Hall, School Lane, between 8:30am and10:15 am on the day of the show. Entry forms are available on the day, or at any time from the “Exhibits” page on the Fulford Show website www.fulfordshow.org.uk where details of all the prize classes are listed.
Cllr Keith Aspden, local ward councillor for Fulford and Heslington, said:
“I am pleased to be working with the Fulford Show Committee again this year, and to launch our fantastic local show. I would really encourage people to come along and enjoy the day, which supports many local charities. Last year’s show was a great success and I am certain that this year, with our Spitfire fly-past, will match that. The hard work and dedication of the people involved is essential to what makes the Fulford Show such a great event.”
Helen Webster, from the Fulford Show tombola team, added:
“We have some fantastic prizes every year from business donors and individuals, such as tickets for York Races, vouchers for hair and beauty treatments, and many other valuable items. We welcome any unused items, such as confectionery, wine, jewellery, toiletries and craft items. If any residents are able to donate a prize or two, it would be very much appreciated. Please ring or email 01904 466074 or firstname.lastname@example.org before 20th August and we will include these in the tombola stall.”
Parking is kindly provided by Fulford School, off Fulfordgate, and St. Oswald’s Primary School, off School Lane, and refreshments are available from the Sports Club pavilion and on the show ground
